I'm guessing this is some automatic feature of iPython, but is there an easy solution? Is this something I even need to solve?

Doesn't seem like a match. This is a problem that only seems to happen in ipython, so far, and only when you do imports. mlissner Sep 5, 2015 at 19:55 2 secs after reading your answer i was able to fix it. Automatic 'code refactoring' from my IDE was the cause. (We all know which one it is) user528025 May 12, 2020 at 11:00 Ahh! The error I got was AttributeError: type object 'User' has no attribute 'USERNAME_FIELD' . Turned out I had a duplicate model (from copying and pasting) YCode Apr 16, 2022 at 14:45

I got the same error when mistakenly defining 2 of the same name models(classes) in "models.py" as shown below:

# "models.py"
from django.db import models
class Product(models.Model):
    name = models.CharField(max_length=100)
class Product(models.Model):
    title = models.CharField(help_text=_("Required"), max_length=200)
