On 8th April, Dr. Vladimir Lumelsky, who is IEEE Life Fellow and Professor Emeritus of University of Wisconsin-Madison, visited Southeast University, and gave a lecture Human-Robot Interaction and Human-Robot Teams in Sipailou Campus. The visit was a part of IEEE Sensors Council Distinguished Lecturer Activities in China, and sponsored by the IEEE Nanjing Section Council Chapter and School of Electronic Science and Engineering. In the lecture, Dr. Lumelsky reported his work on algorithms of adjusting and grasping 2D and 3D motions when developing robots for assembling tasks on space station. The robots have an ability of whole-body sensing which exceeds human spatial reasoning skills and allows for a mix of supervised and unsupervised robot operation. After the lecture, Dr. Lumelsky visited Advanced Photonics Center, MEMS Lab, Display Center and FEI Nano-Pico Center.

Vladimir Lumelsky is the former chief scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. His studied in Leningrad Institute of Fine Mechanics and Optics USSR (LIFMO), where General Ding Henggao and Lieutenant General Nie Li have studied. After moved to USA, Dr. Lumelsky has held engineering, research, administrative, and faculty positions with Ford Motor Research Labs, General Electric Research Center, Yale University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Maryland, NASA-Goddard Space Center and National Science Foundation. Concurrently he has held visiting positions with the Tokyo Institute of Science in Japan, Weizmann Institute in Israel and USA-Antarctica South Pole Station.

Dr. Lumelsky has served as IEEE Sensors Council President, and was the Founding Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Sensors Journal. Dr. Lumelsky was elected an IEEE Life Fellow, and a member of ACM.
