Choosing and staying at the place you work is one of the biggest decisions of your life. It impacts your every day, your future and the people you love.

Almost 8 years ago, I decided to take a leap and join this financial services firm called Baird as a recruiting consultant. I wasn’t sure about working in the financial industry because it certainly wasn’t my sweet spot in college. I thought it would be stuffy and political, but I knew Baird had a good reputation. I then took another leap when asked to join Baird full time over 5 years ago. As I celebrate 5 (but really 8) years in 2019, Baird celebrates 100. And boy, do we know how to celebrate! This week, over 7,000 associates and guests came from around the world to experience a once in a lifetime celebration. It was 3 amazing days celebrating the people, the culture, the history, the values, the success of Baird. We took over the Wisconsin Center with a unique marketplace and epic Welcome Celebration with incredible displays of our values and our history. There was 2 bands, acrobats and a full dance floor. And, in true Baird fashion, over 3000 backpacks of toiletries were created to send to those in need. The next day the celebration continued at the Summerfest grounds with our Annual Meeting, multiple stages of music and of course, Baird blue kool-aid. Then, why not end the night with a private concert with Zac Brown Band. Truly a week never to forget.

As with any job, there have been ups and downs during my time with Baird. Sure, there has been an occasional pondering of exploring other opportunities, but the people are a tough bunch to leave. And this past week has solidified how truly amazing Baird is. How blessed I am to have a career where I am constantly challenged and always learning. I work my butt off because I believe in what I do. I am fortunate to work among so many talented individuals who push me every day. I have formed friendships with my teammates and clients that I will have forever. I have hired the best of the best from interns to leaders and watched them succeed and grow. So many people know me by name (or by an animated nickname) because I have impacted their lives in some way. At events, I am introduced to spouses or family members of people I’ve hired and they are excited to share that I’m the person who brought them to Baird and they share their gratitude. There is nothing more satisfying than knowing you have changed someone’s life for the better. And now I am fortunate to have a job where I can bring the Baird story to life and attract more amazing talent.

The 100th celebration is over, but there is so much more to come. It’s an exciting time and I look forward to what the future holds.
