1st run of the inbox repair tool

It found a minor inconsistency on a PST file which only contains 1 folder with 71 MB worth of messages:

I press the repair button w/o backup and the above log file is presented.

2nd run of the inbox repair tool

It found an ERROR this time on the same PST file

I press the repair button w/o backup and the above log file is presented.

3rd run of the inbox repair tool

Same error message like 2nd run BUT this line is different:    !!AMap page <@75187200> has csFree of 112, but should have 255

4th run of the inbox repair tool

It found a minor inconsistency on the PST file: However when attempting to repair said PST, the following message is shown:

ERROR: There is no repair button to choose! I can only click the "OK"-button.

A quick question before we proceed.

-Are you facing any problem with PST file?

Create new PST file by going to FILE > Account Settings > Account Settings > Data Files tab>click Add button. Once you create new data file move or copy contain from old PST file to new PST file then run inbox repair tool on new PST file and verify the result.

Creating a new PST file will erase all your autocomplete information and does work but only for a very little while.  I have to repair all my .ost and .pst files from time to time.  Get an app that actually runs until the pst is fixed.   It may be a lot of effort infolved if you have many .pst files.

This is something that MS has to fix because it is only getting worse.  Outlook from time to time crashes due to this problem.  Creating a new .pst file is your last resort option.

Hello, I too have concerns about using the scanpst tool. My level is 15.0.4665.1000, a bit lower than the one in use in your PC. I suspect your level is in the latest Office2016, whereas mine is Office/Oulook2013.

First, I want to say that the 15.0.4665.1000 level DOES provide the repair button for minor inconsistencies.

What concerns me, is that after successive runs of the tool, which by the way supports OST file repair too, if you just open outlook, and close it straight away, without any updates (no new emails, moves, or archives), you will again see a few inconsistencies.

I suspect that for non-unicode PST files (i.e. 97-2002 format), Outlook seems to be a bit "buggy" in its overall handling of them.

At this stage, I am not certain what will cause my problem (when I attempt to manually move a mail to my archive PST file - I get this "The attempted operation failed - an object cannot be found" - until I run "send receive all" one time, and then it gets fixed for a while. It can happen again between 10 or 60 minutes more use, very random, but is ALWAYS fixed by a "send receive all". Hello Palcouk, I am sure it is correct what you say, however, I am surprised that the new run of the scanpst without any activity, shows this (from an ANSI PST archive file):

So, is scanpst wrong, or is outlook2013 internals losing pointers, during the pst open, or other internal or cache processing? . Certainly the AMAP Valid flag is false, according to the header from NBDview. The FLT (Folder Layer Tree?) always seems to show errors, during folder walk checks, in ALL PST file fomats, ANSI or UNICODE, AND in OST files, so I am not sure if this is a deficiency in the scanpst (I am using version 15.0.4665.1000), or if these are valid errors. Can I download a later version of scanpst from a 2016 version of OLK to test the problem?

Note that I have NEVER had an issue where OLK2013 cannot open a pst/ost file, and scanpst has NEVER said it cannot or has not repaired any problem found. The fact that the "object cannot be found" error goes away once "send/receive all" is run, and I can redo a move, would suggest it is NOT a profile issue, but more like an internal bug, where outlook is loosing its way - i.e. failing to manage internal references/pointers/arrays to file NBD's etc. (I am NOT saying it is NOT a PST/OST inconsistency, but I just don't trust the scanpst results enough to be certain).
